our being alone,

Diary Entry

Dear Diary,
Fear doesn’t even begin to describe the state of absolute terror that I’m in. How I long for the days when it was accepted for me to openly cry and not be condemned for it, how I wish I could be a littlun that could cry freely and have someone reassure him. I am scared of being in charge, I am scared of the fact that we might never be rescued, and I am scared of people turning against me. But, I can’t show the others my fear, because then they will underestimate my abilities as their leader. My tears will show weakness, and my strength is all they admire.

Maybe I am not supposed to be the leader. I have been trying so hard to make the others feel comfortable in this unpleasant setting, but I feel that I am failing them. As the days diminish so does the state of order and civilization, no one seems to want to listen to me anymore, especially Jack. I am desperately trying to do things with the peoples’ best interests in mind, while Jack is going about things in a selfish manner. I snapped at him the other day, I know I shouldn’t have; a good leader is tolerant. Why did they choose me as their leader? Was it because of the damned conch that nobody seems to know how to respect? I am not going to lie, it felt incredible when I saw the majority of hands go up to vote for me. I felt accepted, admired, even liked, but now, with Jack on the rise, what if people forget about me, because Jack might promise them their wants and not their needs? I am not saying that I am a great leader, on the contrary, but I know that I am better for these kids than Jack. Only the ignorant will go with Jack, but then again, everyone is somewhat ignorant.

Piggy would make a good leader, he is smart, very smart, but unfortunately leaders must obtain a certain image, which Piggy doesn’t have. I don’t like to admit this to him, but without him, I don’t know what I’d do. His comments have truly helped me, and his glasses did start the fire. I could never tell him this though, because I don’t want him to have a big head, like Jack.

I lay here on the shore with the starlit sky as my only source of light, while everyone is sleeping, thinking about paternalism. I try to be a fatherly figure to the littluns, I try to be their confidante, but I need a fatherly figure of my own, I need my father. My father wouldn’t condemn me for wetting this entry with my suppressed tears, on the contrary, my father would squeeze them out of me. NO, I can’t cry, I won’t cry….

سارة: من كان عند الباب؟

الأم: ( القلق واضح على وجهها): جاءت لك برقية (تناول البرقية
سارة تمزق الظرف وتقرأ الرسالة... ثم تبدأ بالبكاء. الغضب واضح في عينيها

الأم: ماذا حصل؟ هل مات؟ يا إله

سارة: يا له من كذاب... حقير! يا له من نذل

الأم: سارة! ماذا بك؟

سارة: هل تريدين أن تسمعي خبر زوجي العزيز؟

الأم: نعم، أكيد.. لا تخوفينني

(سارة: ( تقرأ رسالة جورج


"إلى عزيزتي سارة،
أعرف أن مضى وقت طويل ولم أرسل لك أي رسالة. ولكن صراحةً لم أعرف ماذا أقول لك. أريد أن أقول لك إنني بصحة جيدة، ولكنني لا أعرف متى سأرجع إلى الديار ويصعب عليَّ قول وأواجهك بهذا الخبر... إنني قد وقعت في حب امرأة عراقية رائعة وأريد أن أتزوجها بأسرع وقت ممكن. ولهذا السبب أحتاجك أن توقعي أوراق الطلاق الموجودة في الظرف. اعلمي يا سارة إنني لم أخطط هذا ولكن القدر جعله يحدث. إن شاء اله ستجدين الرجل الذي يستطيع أن يسعدك.

سارة: كيف تريدينني أن أهدأ عندما لم أسمع أي خبر من زوجي لمدة ستة أشهر؟
الأم: هل تريدينني أن أحضر لك الشاي؟

!سارة: مابكم؟ كلما اضطربت أردتم أن تحضروا لي الشاي

!الأم: سارة، اطمئني. زوجك لم يمت

سارة: كيف تعرفين؟ يا أماه.. لا أعرف ماذا أفعل بنفسي! إنني مرهقة! تعبت وأنا أبتسم هذه الابتسامة المزيفة أمام الناس وأنا في غاية الحزن والقلق. أريد زوجي! أريد حبيبي بجانبي! إنك لم تسمعي الكلام الذي قال لي قبل أن يغادر، كلماته جعلتني أن أقع في حبه مرة ثانية. أحبه يا ماما! ولا أستطيع أن أعيش بدونه. ولكن في هذه اللحظة أكرهه! فإنه لم يرسل لي أي رسالة أو خبر. أعرف ظروفه صعبة ولكنني لا أسأل الكثير.. فقط أريد أن أعرف أنه على ما يرام. هل نساني يا أمي؟

الأم: يا لك من فتاة سخيفة! تسألينني لو زوجك نساك؟ أكيد لم ينسكِ.. جورج وقف أمام الله وخلقه وعبر عن حبه إليكِ بالعهد التي أخذها يوم زواجكم. الزواج شيء مقدس والحب معجزة

سارة: كيف تفسرين عدم اتصاله بي؟ لو كان يحبني حقاً، لما يضعني في هذا الموقف. لو كنت في مكانه لو ما فعلت هذا به
الأم: سارة، الرجال والنساء مختلفون! اذهبي وارتاحي حبيبتي

المشهد الأول

يبدأ المشهد الأول في منزل جورج وسارة في بريطانيا، اللذين تزوجا منذ ستة أشهر. جورج يخاطب سارة وهي تبكي

جورج : حبيبتي، إذا رأيتك متألمة أتألم

سارة : كيف لا تريدني أن أبكي وأنت ستذهب إلى العراق لتحارب؟! هل تعرف مدى الخطر الذي ستضع (فيه نفسك؟ لم تمر سنة على زواجنا وسأصبح أرملة؟ ( تنفجر في البكاء

جورج: أرملة؟ لا، اطمئني حبيبتي، سأرجع لك وأنا في كل صحة وعافية ( يمسح دموعها). يلا عزيزتي، اغسلي وجهك، وسأحضر لك الشاي. هل تريدينه بالليمون أم النعناع؟

سارة: ليمون؟ نعناع؟ كيف تريدني أن أشرب الشاي الآن وأنا في هذه الحالة؟ وكيف تتحدث إليَّ بغاية الراحة وعدم الخوف؟ ألست خائفاً؟ يالك من غريب

جورج: غريب، ها؟ تزوجتِ رجلاً غريباً إذا

(سارة: نعم، غريب... ولكنني أحبه بكل قلبي، ولهذا لا أتصور العيش بدونه ( تبكي

جورج ( يداعب شعرها): سألتني لو كنت خائفاً، نعم، أنا خائفاً، ولكن ليس من الموت. أخاف أن أعود وأراك بين أحضان رجل آخر

سارة: كيف تقول شيئاً كهذا؟ أنت الرجل الذي اخترته بين كل الرجال. أحببتك، ومنذ أول نظرة عرفت أنك الرجل الذي سيرتاح له قلبي. الحب شيء عظيم، وفراق بعضنا عن بعض لن يضعف الحب العظيم الذي بيننا، بل سيقويه. لا أفكر برجل سواك، ولن أفكر برجل آخر. أنا الذي يجب عليَّ أن أكون خائفة من احتمال خيانتك
جورج : كيف أخون أغلى واحدة عندي؟ أحبك يا سارة! و حتى لو أردت أن أخونك... أخونك مع من يا
(ترى؟ سأذهب إلى العراق، هل سأخونك مع امرأة عراقية؟ (يضحك

(سارة: أوه يا جورج! لا تمزح معي بهذه الأمور (تبتسم

جورج: ياي! هذه الابتسامة الذي سأشتاق إليها! هل تقبلتي الأمر الآن؟ لا تخافي، سأرجع قريباً. الله
(سيحميني لكي أرجع إلى زوجتي العزيزة (يقبلها

سارة: لم أرتاح للموضوع، ولكن هذا واجبك نحو وطنك. متى سترحل؟

...جورج: بعد أسبوع تقريباً

سارة: وتقول لي هذا الخبر الآن؟

بعد مرور أسبوع ( يوم رحيل جورج إلى العراق)

جورج ( يضع حقائبه في التاكسي): كفِ عن البكاء فستجعليني أبكي أيضاً. تعالي هنا ( يحضنها ويهمس في أذنها)، أحبك يا سارة، أنا زوجك، وسأظل زوجك. حاولي أن تفهمي أن هذا شيء يجب عليَّ القيام به. إن شاء الله عندما أرجع، سننشأ عائلة، وسيفتخر أولادنا بوالدهم الذي ذهب ليحرر شعب مظلوم.

سارة: ( الدموع تسيل بتواصل من عينيها): سأكون فخورة بك دائماً. الله معك وسأحبك للأبد( جورج يقبل سارة ويضمها إليه)

جورج: لو مت، اعلمي أن حبي باتجاهك لن يمت أبداً

لماذا تجرأت يا زمن وعيد ميلادي أعدت؟
يا ليتك أيها العيد لم تأت، لا بل ليتك وئدت
كيف تجرؤ أيها الزمن، بعد أن فعلت بي ما فعلت؟
وأنت الذي بهنيهة حبيبة قلبي سمر قتلت
وتركتني أتعذب بكل لحظة، وبحالي ما رأفت
أهديتني قسوة الحياة، وأشدها يا زمن، قسوت
والمر العلقم الذي سمعت عنه، إياي الآن أطعمت

Samar Al Ansari 2009 Economics Award




Honored Guests, Parents, and Students,
Three years ago, IKNS lost one its most loved students. Samar Al Ansari, may her soul rest in peace, was a stellar student who was known for many amiable qualities. Not only was Samar known as an excellent academic and athlete, but she was also known to be a great friend with a great personality.
I personally never got the chance to get to know Samar. But I’ve heard many stories about her great personality from many people around school. From what I’ve heard, one can easily tell that Samar was an outstanding student. Whenever you hear Samar Al Ansari, you hear people talking about how intelligent she was or how kind hearted or popular she was. People would tell me that Samar was truly one of a kind. Many, like me, who didn’t know Samar or were merely acquainted, would say how she touched their lives.
Everyone who knew Samar loved her dearly. Some would tell me how her optimism kept them going. She was a witty and thoughtful person. She never left any problems unsolved. She scrutinized everything she stumbled upon. Be it an economics theory or a complex mathematical problem. And when she does stumble upon any problems, she examines it with a critical eye. Dissecting the problem into smaller manageable pieces. Samar was someone who wasn’t easily pleased with a straightforward answer. She looked for all possible solutions to any problems and weighed the consequences and benefits. She was an individual thinker, someone to look up to. In short, Samar had all the qualities of an exemplary student. In her loving memory, Samar’s parents have designated an award that goes to one IKNS student with exceptional critical thinking skills. This award goes to Nouf Khalid Mattar.

SAMAR Al Ansari 2008-2009 IKNS Sports Award

for Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer at IKNS


At the beginning of 2006-07 school year, the school community was stunned and devastated by the passing of one of the most capable students IKNS has produced, both academically & on the sports field! Samar Al Ansari was tragically killed in a car accident on the 4th September 2006. She was to begin her tertiary education studying at University of York in England, the same university as her older sister Qadar, something Samar was really looking forward to.

It is a privilege but tinged with much sadness, I wish to present the Samar Al Ansari Award to the girl who has made an Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer during her time at IKNS on behalf of Samar’s Parents, Dr. Ahmed Anasri & Dr. Randah Hamadeh.

In my 1st 5 years as the Senior Girls (SG’s) Soccer Coach, there has been an Ansari in the team. To be honest Samar’s passing hurt, and we have all asked why?
Someone so young, so capable & her life beyond IKNS all in front of her.
Some parents have said to me life’s order is supposed to take the parents first, not their children.

On the soccer field, Samar was potentially one of the best players in the SG’s.
Samar, in the JG’s acquired the nickname “crazy legs” & it stuck.
When she ran her legs simply went everywhere. Anatomically, definitely not one of the great running styles. She was actually very fast off the mark, & one of the few SG’s who had ‘wheels’ (speed).

On the academic side, Samar acheived 42 out of a possible 45 for IB.
I am sure any of the IB students here tonight would be overjoyed to receive such marks in their IB exams this year.

One of the fondest memories I have of Samar Al Ansari is of her & IKNS Girls SG’s Team in Dubai watching a video at some rather late hour when they should have been asleep. Imagine 15 SG’s girls on 3 single beds & one asleep in the middle of them all watching the video. The Dubai soccer tournaments are a special part of the IKNS sporting calendar & the highlight for many of you. Samar was no exception & really enjoyed her two trips to Dubai.

The two previous winners of the Samar Al Ansari Award were Rania Mashouk & Fatima Mahmood.

The award is to recognise a student for their Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer during their time at IKNS.

This girl has played soccer for the IKNS Senior Girls for the last 3 years, and has played a major role in contributing to our successes during those 3 years.

This person realised academy success was important to her & what she wished to achieve & came to IKNS at the start of Grade 10. Even before then we had met, I had to chase her up & down the soccer field in Dubai refereeing, thinking this girl can play. Even then she supported IKNS.

This person has been part of one of the most successful sports teams at IKNS ever.
2 BPSSL SG’s titles, 2 end of season titles & 2 3rd places in Dubai in her time. And I think she has had 4 trips to Dubai tournaments. The SG’s are good enough to seriously compete in the Gulf & this girl is one of the reasons why.

Her contribution on the goal scoring front is 2nd to none! Think of a number, then times it by 2, you might by close. This person has scored 40 goals for the SG’s in her time. Like Fatima Mahmood with 88 appearances in games or at practices, is a record that, I think, will never be broken!

As a coach I get a lot of satisfaction from the person who set-up the goal, & not necessarily the one who actually scored the goal. This persons vision & awareness are best illustrated by the fact her fellow strikers scored many goals as well; Areej Abulla scoring 5 goals, Basma Ajoor 7, Jawaher Zayani 20, and Majda Maskati 9 apiece. All these girls really appreciated their opportunity to play with her, & confidence breeds confidence.

Her best goal – vs. Shaikha Hassa School in the 2006-07 season. This person started with the ball in deep in midiield, lifted the ball over a defender while keeping the ball in contact with her left foot the whole time, ran to the left around the next defender, then veered right in field around the next defender. By now on the edge of the 18 yard box, stuck a superb foot blow curling the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal. The goalkeeper did not have a chance. I said to the SG’s after the game the crowd should have paid to see that goal – it was that good! Her 2nd goal against SHaikha Hassa this year to bring us back into the game at 2-2 was pretty special tool!

With all the skill she possesses, I think the one thing I have taught her is to run first, then do the things she can & likes to do. Not the fancy stuff 1st. Space is a wonder thing on the soccer field – use it.

Although Samar Al Ansari played her soccer as a defender on the right, she loved to attack from deep inside our half; this person definitely knows how to attack. Sometimes, out of position in the midfield. But then again attack is best form of defense. Girls, I don’t know if you have noticed this persons interesting running style,– her legs go out & round, but rather fast. Not to dissimilar to Samar’s & her “crazy legs” style.

Academics - with plans well underway, realising academics are important. This person is enrolled to attend a University in Boston, USA on a sporting scholarship for next year. One of the 1st for an IKNS student. She has the skills, is more than ready for the opportunity to play soccer at a higher level & I wish her well. I hope she responds well to this opportunity, remember Samar really wanted to go to university & did not get the opportunity.

It gives me great pleasure to present the 3rd winner of the Samar Al Ansari Award for Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer and one of the most talented players IKNS has ever produced . . . Zain M. Al Khalifa.

:ان قوة شخصية كليوباترا واضحة خلال المسرحية بأكملها ولكن ابرزها فى هذه المواضع
رغم تآمر زينون عليها وكرهه لها إلا انه قال عند رؤيتها
"سلام السموات فى مجدها على ربة التاج ذات الجلال"
.مما يدل على مكانتها
:وعندما يقول أوروس
لولا الوليمة والشراب وحرمة لاميرة الوادي السعيد ديارها"
.استخدام اوروس لكلمة "حرمة"يرفع من شأنها الى مرتبة التقديس
:وعندما يقول انطونيوس
"اخرجت أمري واختياري من يدي وتركتني نفساً بغير دلاك"
هذا البيت يدل على سيطرة كيلوباترا على تصرفاته
:وعندما يقول اوكتافيوس
"لعبت بأنطونيوس ويوليوس حقبه كما جاء بالمسحور او راح ساحر"
معنى هذاالبيت يشبه اوكاتفيوس كليوبترا بالساحره واعمالها بالسحر
،رغم قوتها إلا انها كانت تظهر ضعفاً غير حقيقي ذلك لأن الضعف من سمات النساء الذي يظهر فى هذا البيت
"مكانك تيعبر لا تذهبن ولا تبرح القصر أهلك آسي"

:وكليوباترا اظهرت قوتها فى الدلال وبكبرياؤها من خلال عدة مواقف
:ب - مهلقة
وبالابيات التالية تقوم كليوباترا بسود مافعلت من أجل الأسكندرية وازدهارها فقد جعلت البر أخضراً ، وملأت البحر بالسفن ، الـــخ

:ج - فخـر
يظهر فخرها على أشده عندما تجعل نفسها ضرة روما،
"اليوم تعلم روما انني ضرتها أنا السيف والآخرون العصى"

:د - أبية
:اباؤها واضح فى عدم خوفها من الموت وتحديها ورفضها للذل
"ابي للعزل خقت ولا المنايا أأدخل فى ثياب الذلا روما"

:هـ - تتألف خصومها
والدليل على ذلك اجتذابها الحلابي عن سبيل حبه لهيلانه

:و - عطوفاً على اتباعها
كانت معاملتها لحزمها تتسم بالعطف والموده مما اكسبها تفاني الخدم

"ز - غفور: كانت تغفر لمن يتوب "فمثلك تاب ومثلي عفى

ص - جليد: كانت تتباهي بجلدها وتريد الناس ان يقتدوا بها

The Project

This project, believe it or not, was a lot of fun. The group process was fun. I always find that I work better within a group, because it’s more fun and gives you a motive to work. Writing the articles etc was easy, but organizing it and creating the newspaper itself was hard.

رأي الآخرين

كثيراً ما يسترشد الناس بآراء الآخرين فى قضاياهم، ما رأيك في هذا؟ تحدث عن قضية ما، أشار عليك الناس برأيهم حققت نجاحاً أو فشلاً
الإنسان الطبيعي دائماً يحب الهروب من مشاكله ومن واقعه الخاص و لا يريد المرء أن يغلب نفسه و يقرر أشياء لنفسه وأن يحاول أن يجد حل لمشكلة يمر بها، الإنسان كسول
أعرف أحيانا إن الشخص يحتاج صديقاً أو زميلاً ما لكي يساعده و يسمع مشاكله، فيخفف الشخص عن قلبه الثقيل وهمومه ، بعض الناس يقولون عقلين أحسن من عقل ، ولكن كيف يعرف الشخص ما يمر به المهموم؟
جاء رجل يدعى أحمد الى صديقه ماجد وقال: "يا ماجد، زوجتي خانتني، ماذا أفعل؟ هل أطلقها؟ ولكنني لازلت أحبها ". ماجد لا يعرف ما يمر به أحمد، فإرشاده سيكون " نعم، طلقها ". ماجد لا يستطيع أن يتصور أن يضع نفسه بمكانه ويساعده على قرار الطلاق. حتى لو قال له ماجد أن يطلقها، أحمد لن يسمعه لأن احمد سيسمع ما يريد أن يسمع، فهذا ما يفعله الإنسان
عندما كنت صغيرة، تشاجرت مع أختي على سبب سخيف وتافه، ولمدة أيام لم أتحدث معها ولم أتأسف بالرغم من أنني كنت أعرف إنني مخطئة. ذهبت الى الكثير من صديقاتي وحكيت لهم ما حدث بيني وبين أختي، وكان الكل يقول لي أن عليّ أن أتأسف. كنت أغضب عندما كانوا يقولون هذا لأنني أردت أن أسمع " لا سمر، لا تتأسفي، أختك هي المخطئة". استرشادهم كان فيه بركة ولكنني لم أسمع لأن كلامهم لم يعجبني . بعد مرور الأيام أدركت بنفسي أنني كنت مخطئة وتأسفت. أنا الوحيدة التي أستطيع أن أقرر مثل هذه الأمور، فهي تتعلق بي وليست بأصدقائي. أنا التي يجب عليّ أن أتحكم بمصيري وليس أصدقائي
برأيي لو أراد المرء أن يستشير أحد، يجب أن يستشير الله. كما نعرف الله هو الرشيد، ولا يجوز لشخص أن يسمى بالرشيد، فقط بعبد الرشيد. القرآن يستطيع إن ينسيك همومك ويساعدك على قرارات مهمة. كل إنسان يعيش حياة مختلفة ويفكر تفكير مختلف عن غيره فهو الوحيد الذي يستطيع أن يقوم بقرارات مهمة

Habibi

The setting of Habibi affects the way Liyana acts, but when she doesn’t like some aspects of the culture she acts as an individual. At the beginning of the story, when Liyana was packing to travel to Palestine, she wanted to take her “short” shorts with her. Her father didn’t allow it, and the setting and culture of Palestine forced her to change the way she dresses. Also, because of Palestine being an Arab speaking country, Liyana started learning Arabic. If she didn’t learn some Arabic,it would’ve been hard for her to live there. Finally, Liyana became friends with a Jewish boy,which was against her culture.She didn’t like that unwritten rule so she acted as she would have been in the US. As a result of that she kissed him and developed romantic feelings towards him.

On Siblings' Bereavement

"How is your mom doing?''
Is the basic question asked.
Sometimes an inquiry about Dad.
But so sadly seldom,
They do not ask the siblings.
They must be so sad.
True the depth of parents' awful loss
Brings agony and pain.
But the children,the dear children
Really do hurt again and again.
They lost a brother or a sis
Their pain is just as real
Frustration,anger and fear
They,too go through such hell.
Who is there to comfort them
To give a word of care
Everyone is more concerned
About the parents' welfare.
While the siblings
Down in their hurt and pain
No one to hold them near
And let them know they are not to blame.

Voccab Paragraph

As I walked through the stores of the old Islamic country, I saw all the fabulous mosques with their amazing minarets. One thing was clear to me, society and religion worked together in unison. As I looked up to the sky and saw the halo glistening, all I could think about was how beautiful the world was. A musty smell interrupted my train of thoughts and I turned around to see a man dressed in white holding a pot of geranium. He started running and I ran after him veering my way through the alleys. Then he disappeared. Who was that guy who selfishly interrupted my train of thoughts?

I took motherhood so seriously.
I took nothing for granted.
I was always thankful
for what I had.

Juliet’s Diary

In two weeks from today is my 14th birthday, and I have already received the greatest present of all. I have received love! I am in love with an amazing man, Romeo. The only problem is that he’s a Montague; Monatgues are our family’s arch enemies. How do they expect me to have someone so full of love? When I see him, my heart melts and becomes a puddle of love. To love him in secret is better than not to love him at all. Tomorrow I will vow my love to him, and hopefully he will too.

صف موقفاً كنت فيه إنساناً مظلوماً أو عادلاً


في يوم من الأيام ذهبت إلى السيرك لأشاهد القرد العبقري شيب . عندما وصلت إلى السيرك سمعت أن شيب قد هرب
بعد ما سمعت عن هذا الخبر الحزين، حملت حقيبتي التي كانت أثقل مما كانت عليه من قبل، وذهبت إلى السوبر ماركت لأشتري طعاماً. وضعت الكثير من الأشياء في العربة، و عندما وصلت إلى المحاسب، دفعت لأغراضي، وعندما ذهبت بين البوابة المغناطيسية بدأ الجهاز المغنطيسي يدق. أومأت العاملة إلي كأنني مجرمة وقالت إنني ابتدرت. ذهبت معها إلى مكتب الأمن وفتحت حقيبتي، ووجدنا بداخلها شيب يأكل الأكل المسروق. لم أعرف ماذا أقول! وضعوني في السجن مع شيب المجرم. وقالوا إن قضيتنا بعد ساعة. جاءني الشرطي بعد ساعة وقال لي: يا أمة الله احضري إلى مجلس الخصوم حالاً. ذهبنا إلى مجلس الخصوم وحكيت قصتي، فأطرق القاضي لمدة طويلة
حكم القاضي بأن أدفع ثمن الأغراض وأرجع شيب للسيرك. لم استطع أن أرجع شيب فاشتريته، وأصبح شيب من أعز أصدقائي. لن أنسى هذه القضية للأبد، ولن ينساها شيب

Issue: Reducing the costs of life saving medicine

Deeply concerned about the harsh lifestyles some citizens lead,

Deeply conscious of each individual’s right to live and thus stating that this right should be preserved,

Emphasizing the fact that lives are being lost around the world due to lack of access to affordable drugs,

Aware of the fact that pharmaceutical companies are business organizations looking for profit,

Noting with deep concern that a significant amount of individuals in underdeveloped nations, such as those on the African continent, are losing their lives to Aids;

Declaring that human life is more important than profit,

Convinced that in the long run, the international community as a whole will be better of because by giving the sick access to medication, it will prevent the disease from spreading

Noting with satisfaction that generic drugs are identical, or bioequivalent to a brand name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use,

1. Calls upon pharmaceutical companies to lower the prices of life saving medicine;

2. Requests for capable governments, business organizations, the UN, etc. to subsidize pharmaceutical companies in order to make up for their losses;

3. Encourages both the production and selling of cheaper generic drugs;

4. Further invites governments to launch media campaigns promoting the use of generic drugs in order for it to be clear to citizens that these drugs are safe;

5. Emphasizes the need for aid to be given to under developed countries in order for their governments to deal with such issues accordingly;
Aid could be given through the form of:
a) Donations
b) Loans

6.Urges countries and organizations to donate food and drink to the diseases, because it helps keep their immune system strong. Dehydration from diarrhea is still one of the leading causes of death in underdeveloped countries, and thus by having access to clean drinking water their lives could be elongated;

7. Encourages nations in promoting the use of alternative medicine,

8. Recommends the creation of emotional support organizations, because part of the healing process is emotional;

9. Notes that although medical supplies are limited, supplies such as injections should not be used on more than one patient because that will just cause the disease to spread;

10. Reminds nations that as it is important to solve problems, it is also important to prevent them. Thus, together the education facilities, media, and governments can work together to spread awareness on various diseases;

11. Further recommends
that contraceptives such as condoms should be distributed and be easily available in order to prevent sexually transmitted diseases;

12. Calls upon nations to encourage its citizens to take blood tests in order for every citizen to be aware of the disease he/she carries;

13. Reaffirms the need of a mass media campaign to spread awareness on fatal contagious diseases;

14. Recommends bulk buying, this involves several countries getting together to make purchases of HIV Aids treatments, this will help to reduce prices in the countries;

15. Urges pharmaceutical companies to sell their drugs directly to WHO, and the WHO will distribute the drugs accordingly;

16. Resolves that the WHO creates distribution pipe lines, this involves taking surplus medicines from developed countries and distributing them to people in underdeveloped countries in need

Mothers Day

Mothers Day has become so incomplete
As it emphasizes your empty seat

It comes and triggers tremendous pain
As you will never celebrate it with me again

The excitement you used to have when it arrives
Remains a cherished memory all our lives

You woke up early in your special way
To wish me a Happy Mothers Day

You gave me a present that you carefully chose
And placed a carnation on my food tray or a rose

I ask the Lord to help me this day survive
The heartache that it brings since you are not alive

I am helpless and there is nothing much I can do
Except enjoy the memories I shared with you

Thank you Lord for the love I always get
From my children who remember and never forget

The tremendous pain that everyday I am enduring
The fact that they understand is comforting and reassuring

I appreciate all the compassion and love that they give
My three are the dearest of all as long as I live

Account for the final success of the Communists over the Guomindang despite efforts by the Americans to intervene.

The unification of the Communists and the Guomindang against the common enemy, Japan, in 1937 was not strong enough to prevent civil war between the two leading political parties. No one would have predicted the victory of the Communists due to the many advantages the Guomindang had over them. The United States desperately did not want the Communists to seize control of China, thus it assisted the Guomindang in several ways in order to help them gain control over the Communists. Firstly, it provided them with military equipment and weapons. For instance, the United States Air Force organized an airlift using highly sophisticated C-54 planes in order to fly the finest Guomindang troops to key Chinese cities such as Nanjing, Shanghai, and Beijing. By gaining access to these cities, the Guomindang was able to control almost half the cities in Manchuria as well as other cities. The Guomindang were also assisted financially, for they had received 200 million dollars from the U.S. Also, the large American equipped Guomindang army was highly trained by the U.S. In addition to U.S. interference, the Guomindang had a larger army than the Communists, and it held all the big cities and main railways, while the Communists were a weak force that controlled only country side areas. Thus it came as a surprise to many, that the Communists emerged victorious.

Although the Guomindang were advancing, to the extent that they captured the Communist capital of Yanan, they lacked something the communists had-Lin Bao as a leader. The Communist party (later known as the People’s Liberation Army), approached new methods of warfare. They began to focus their attention to guerilla warfare, an alternative that seemed attractive in comparison to their previous techniques. Guerilla warfare consisted of night raids against Guomindang bases, destructing railway lines, ambushing patrols, and other types of unconventional forms of attack. By using such methods, the PLA were able to control much of central and northern China, forcing the Guomindang to go on the defensive. As the Communists acquired more land, its members grew, due to the extensive amount of peasants who began to join the Communists, due to the attractiveness of Communist policies concerning land and loans.

The economic conditions in the Guomindang held cities began to worsen greatly, for rapid inflation was destroying the purchasing power of the consumer. Not only did consumption decrease, but so did labor, due to the amount of strikes held. In addition, many turned to robbery as an alternative to the high prices. As a result of the bad conditions within Guomindang held cities, many began to turn to the Communists. The Guomindang’s grasp on its people began to loosen and it had to turn to its Blue Shirts to keep the order. But there was no use; the Guomindang itself was growing weaker as a political party.

In 1947, the United States recognized the weakness and coming collapse of the Guomindang, thus it cut off all aid, weakening the Guomindang position even further. At this point the PLA was large enough to abandon its guerilla tactics and turned to attacking tactics. In 1948, the Guomindangs and the PLA had the ultimate face off at the Battle of Huai-Hai, which led to the loss of more than half a million Guomindang troops and equipment. This defeat allowed the PLA to move freely, which led them to capture Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Finally, in October 1949, the Communists proclaimed the existence of a new, different China-the People’s Republic of China.

A nightmarish dream


Last night I dreamt of my son
A nightmarish dream I believe
Its been 17 months and a while
Since he was gone at 41

In the dream, Haas, 3 years old
Fearful, tearful
His body stretched tensely
Around my neck his hands held harshly
His small legs trying to reach around me
He held tightly, glued to me firmly

The dream was true, he was alive
I hushed his cries
I wiped his tears
We were one, he and I
A circle of bodies clamped together
Against the cruel and the unjust

They tried to pull him away
But could not divide
They tried to push us apart
But we were still one part
They had to strip off my skin
that was the only way.
For son and mom to split
To take him away
Wrapped in his mother’s membrane

The pain was great
I was awake.

الفشل

الفشل مرّ وقهـر.. ولكنه طريق الى النجاح، كيف؟ أورد حالة فشل مرت بك وكادت ان تحبطك، لولا إرادتك وعزيمتك
الفشل يحطم معنويات المرء ولكن يرفعها مرة ثانية. الفشل يجعلك ان تشعر بأنك إنسان تافه بلا قيمة، ولكن بعدما تتعلم من أخطائك، تشعر بأنك نضجت وأصبحت أفضل. الفشل ليس فقط فى مجال الدراسة والعمل، بل في كل أمور الحياة. فإنني فشلت كصديقة
كوني طالبة البكالوريا الدولية، لدي الكثير من العمل والدراسة، لدرجة أن أحياناً أعيش في عالم لوحدي من كثرة العمل. نتيجة من العمل الهائل، أحياناً لا أرى كل صديقاتي ولا يوجد عندي وقت لأتصل بهن وأسألهن عن حالهن. قبل أسابيع قليلة، كنت مشغولة جداً، لحد أنني شعرت بأن لا يوجد وقت لآتنفس فيه، فلم أسأل عن صديقتي ليــال كثيراً. كنت أراها أحياناً فى المدرسة، ولاحظت ان الحياة قد اختفت من وجهها، ولكن أقنعت نفسي إنها على ما يرام وربما كانت تمر بيوم سيئ. مرت الأيام والأسابيع، ولم يوجد عندي الوقت لأمضيه معها. استمرت هذه الحالة لبضعة أيام، ولكن فى يوم واحد كل شيء تغير. أتت إلي ليـال والدموع تسيل من عينيها باستمرار، فكانت شاحبة اللون واضعف. خفت وسألتها ما بها، فقالت لي كل شيء، قالت لي: "يا سمر، فى هذه الأسابيع الماضية كنت أبكي كل يوم، فأنني فى حالة إكتئاب شديدة. توقفت عن الأكل ولجأت للتدخين للمساعدة، فأنني شعرت بالوحدة وظننت ان لا أحد يهتم بي. أنا آسفة انني قلت لك كل هذا الآن. ولكن احتجت إن أتحدث معك!" انفجرت في البكاء، وأبكتني "معها ، فضممتها الى صدري وهمست في أذنيها، " إنني هنا الآن ضممتها ، لن أرحل وأتركك وحيده ؟
ذهبت الى البيت ذلك اليوم بحالة تعتبر إحباط شديدة, فأنني فشلت كصديقة. كنت مندمجة فى دراستي لحد أنني نسيت عن صديقتي المفضلة. أنني رأيت مظاهر الاكتئاب على وجهها ولكن لم اعتقد ان المسألة خطيرة !! لم أعطِ صديقتي بعض من وقتي لكي أسألها عن حالها وأزيل عنها ألم الوحدة المرة. كانت صديقتي بحاجة لي، ولكنني كنت عمياء. فاهتممت بمصلحتي ونفسي ونسيت صديقتي الغالية
بعد لوم نفسي والبكاء على تصرفاتي، بدأت بالتفكير. كيف يستطيع البكاء أن يساعدني؟ صديقتي بحاجة إلي، فعلي ان أمد لها يدي وأساعدها. فشلي كصديقة جعلني استيقظ من سباتي العميق، فأراني المشاكل التي تمر بها صديقتي، فبدأت أتصل بها بالتزام، واقضي الكثير من وقتي معها لكي أظهر لها استعدادي لمساعدتها، معاً استطعنا ان نأتي بحلول لمشاكلها. الآن صديقتي ليست في حالة اكتئاب وأصبحت تقول لي ما كانت تخفيه عني قلبها الثقيل من قبل. لو لم أفشل لم أستطع بمساعدة صديقتي، ففشلي أظهر لي حالتها النفسية. ففشلي كان مثل الساعة التي أيقظتني من سباتي العميق فشلي كان وسيلتي لمساعدتها، فأحمد الله سبحانه وتعالى على هذه التجربة لأنني أشعر الآن بأنني أصبحت صديقة مهتمة بصديقاتها
هذه التجربة غيرتني، فأعرف الآن أن مهما كان لدي من العمل ، عليّ أن امضي وقت مع الشخصيات الرئيسية في حياتي، فهم قد يمرون بأوقات صعبة. تعلمت أيضاً أن أشارك في عالمنا الحقيقي ولأعيش في عالم يدور حلو العمل والدراسة
