I Carry Her in My Heart

Some people may think that I am insane
Those ones probably have not encountered such pain

The pain of losing a daughter or a son
And knowing that from this life he/she is gone

To wake up in the morning, day after day
And ask "Where is my daughter? Tell me, I pray"

Although I know she is in heaven above
Yet, I yearn to hold her and give her my love

But I also know that I carry her in my heart
We became one; no one can separate us apart

SAMAR AL ANSARI 2008 Soccer Award

Samar Al Ansari Award 2008
for Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer at IKNS

At the beginning of 2006-07 school year, the school community was stunned and devastated by the passing of one of the most capable students IKNS has produced, both academically & on the sports field! Samar Al Ansari was tragically killed in a car accident on the 4th September 2006. She was to begin her tertiary education studying at University of York in England, the same university as her older sister Qadar, something Samar was really looking forward to.

It is a privilege but tinged with much sadness, I wish to present the Samar Al Ansari Award to the girl who has made an Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer during her time at IKNS on behalf of Samar’s Parents, Dr. Ahmed Anasri & Dr. Randah Hamadeh.

In my 1st 5 years as the Senior Girls (SG’s) Soccer Coach, there has been an Ansari in the team. To be honest Samar’s passing hurt, and we have all asked why?
Someone so young, so capable & her life beyond IKNS all in front of her.
Some parents have said to me life’s order is supposed to take the parents first, not their children.

On the soccer field, Samar was potentially one of the best players in the SG’s.
Samar, in the JG’s acquired the nickname “crazy legs” & it stuck.
When she ran her legs simply went everywhere. Anatomically, definitely not one of the great running styles. She was actually very fast off the mark, & one of the few SG’s who had ‘wheels’ (speed).

On the academic side, Samar acheived 42 out of a possible 45 for IB.
I am sure any of the IB students here tonight would be overjoyed to receive such marks in their IB exams this year.

One of the fondest memories I have of Samar Al Ansari is of her & IKNS Girls SG’s Team in Dubai watching a video at some rather late hour when they should have been asleep. Imagine 15 SG’s girls on 3 single beds & one asleep in the middle of them all watching the video. The Dubai soccer tournaments are a special part of the IKNS sporting calendar & the highlight for many of you. Samar was no exception & really enjoyed her two trips to Dubai. The recipient tonight is one of the students her tonight who was in the room that night.

How many of you have hugged the camel at Rashid School? U13 Boys may remember me asking you to stop be the camal at Rashid School in Dubai this year.

This is 2nd year of the Samar Al Ansari Award, the inaugural winner was Rania Mashouk.

The award goes to the student who personifies all the admirable characteristics I have highlighted about Samar Al Ansari & their Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer during their time at IKNS.

This girl has played soccer for IKNS at every level from Grade 6 to Seniors.

This person has been part of one of the most successful sports teams at IKNS ever.
3 BPSSL SG’s titles. 4 trips to Dubai - 1st school team in Dubai 2005 & 2 3rds placing in 2007 & 2008.

In 2005, she made her 1st trip to Dubai with SG’s as a budding striker & played herself into the ground & until her legs would move no more having given her all, unfortunately had to miss the final. This particular Dubai tournament, I still say this is the best performance by any sports team I have been associated with at IKNS in my time.
The 2005 team were the first school in a competition of 10 SG’s teams.
Her efforts were really appreciated by myself & Miss Mireille.
In 2006, saw her play with Samar in the SG’s who won the BPSSL title, developing a midfielder.
In 2007, now midfield was her position, developing a good understanding of what is required of a midfielder – trapping, looking & lots of passing, not to mention running. Her & another person her tonight formed the back bone of our midfield.
The SG’s won there 2nd title.
In 2008, now a Gr.12 student, defense was her position, very strong on defence, excellent anticipation, always offered encouragement to the SG’s as one of the vice captains. On one occasion at half time in a game, even offered some advice for the referee who needed some upskilling in the understanding of the off-side rule in soccer. The SG’s won the BPSSL title for the 3rd year in a row. She was a major contributing factor to the SG’s success over the last 3 years.

Samar AL Ansari was at her best defending on the right, tackling & running the ball back at the opposition. Attack is often the best form of defense, why not from fullback. “Crazy legs” would often have the subs standing next to me laughing, wondering how she could run so fast & still control the ball. This years recipient has the ability to anticipate what is going to happen in a game, & is often in the right place at the right time, stopping the oppositions attack & starting ours. This person has their own distinctive walk often expressed as the girls left after a soccer game. Boots over one shoulder leaving with a smile of contentedness, “job done sir”, happy talking to her team mates about the game, no big deal & just being part of the SG’s.

Reliability and committed is the key to this person. Always there for the Senior Girls. She is only 4 students to have a 100% attendance this year. This also happened in the 2006-07. She has fashioned a record that I feel will never be broken at IKNS in any sporting field. She has played 56 games of soccer for IKNS, attended 32 practices, a total of 88 days of soccer over 4 years. In PE terms, that means more than a year of soccer & only soccer for PE. Good idea some may say.
Just think about it, are you that committed and reliable to your sport or to school?
Some teams here tonight do not total 88 days of their chosen sport this year.

On the soccer field she has soccer goals with her head, shoulder, leg and foot, not to mention the odd important penalty. Her best goal was a header off a Zain corner against the U13 Boys in a practice game.

Academics, realizing academics are important. This person has enrolled to attend a University in England for next year.

The recipient is someone who only knows how to give 100% for the IKNS SG’s.
It will be a little strange not to have her on the field as she does have a really good understanding of how to play the game, what I as a coach would like the team to do & what her roll in it is.

A penalty shoot in Dubai for 3rd place this year some up my feelings about the recipient, a script I could not have written any better. “All good things come to those who wait!” Well 7 penalties later, no one would look at me as their coach, “. . . , up you go, your turn”, “Me!” Head down realising a job had to be down, visualised which side she would go. Bang the shot goes – hard, low & to the right, Al Ain’s goalie partially saves the goal but there is enough power in the shot to take the ball under the goalie & over the line to score the goal & secure 3rd place for the SG’s in Dubai this year. Chaos broke out, with her taking off on a very fast victory celebration of her own, before her very happy team mates could catch her up. Excited to say the least was an understatement. As I mentioned earlier, a script I could not have written any better. “All good things do come to those who wait!” Especially for the girls who contributed the most to our success in the penalty shoot out had tears in their eyes.

It gives me great pleasure to present the 2nd winner of the Samar Al Ansari Award for Outstanding Contribution to Girls Soccer at IKNS . . . Fatima Mahmood.

Mr. Mark Clark
Soccer Coach, IKNS

Diary Entry

Samar Al-Ansari 11.5
Sep. 18,’04
Objective: Written Task 1, diary entry

Dear Diary,
Fear doesn’t even begin to describe the state of absolute terror that I’m in. How I long for the days when it was accepted for me to openly cry and not be condemned for it, how I wish I could be a littlun that could cry freely and have someone reassure him. I am scared of being in charge, I am scared of the fact that we might never be rescued, and I am scared of people turning against me. But, I can’t show the others my fear, because then they will underestimate my abilities as their leader. My tears will show weakness, and my strength is all they admire.

Maybe I am not supposed to be the leader. I have been trying so hard to make the others feel comfortable in this unpleasant setting, but I feel that I am failing them. As the days diminish so does the state of order and civilization, no one seems to want to listen to me anymore, especially Jack. I am desperately trying to do things with the peoples’ best interests in mind, while Jack is going about things in a selfish manner. I snapped at him the other day, I know I shouldn’t have; a good leader is tolerant. Why did they choose me as their leader? Was it because of the damned conch that nobody seems to know how to respect? I am not going to lie, it felt incredible when I saw the majority of hands go up to vote for me. I felt accepted, admired, even liked, but now, with Jack on the rise, what if people forget about me, because Jack might promise them their wants and not their needs? I am not saying that I am a great leader, on the contrary, but I know that I am better for these kids than Jack. Only the ignorant will go with Jack, but then again, everyone is somewhat ignorant.

Piggy would make a good leader, he is smart, very smart, but unfortunately leaders must obtain a certain image, which Piggy doesn’t have. I don’t like to admit this to him, but without him, I don’t know what I’d do. His comments have truly helped me, and his glasses did start the fire. I could never tell him this though, because I don’t want him to have a big head, like Jack.

I lay here on the shore with the starlit sky as my only source of light, while everyone is sleeping, thinking about paternalism. I try to be a fatherly figure to the littluns, I try to be their confidante, but I need a fatherly figure of my own, I need my father. My father wouldn’t condemn me for wetting this entry with my suppressed tears, on the contrary, my father would squeeze them out of me. NO, I can’t cry, I won’t cry….

SAMAR AL ANSARI 2008 Economics Award

Nouf Mattar's speech at the Honor Society:

Ladies and Gentlemen, my fellow students.
One of the greatest losses our school has ever experienced was of the beloved daughter, sister and student, Samar al Ansari. She was the prime example of how a student should act and behave whether it was academically or socially. Samar was known for her excellence in analytical thinking in economics and her skill in sports. She was known to be one of the smartest students in her grade and a great football player. She was what defined the word well-rounded. Due to that, an award has been created to accredit those who possess these characteristics in economics and in sports. On the other hand, Samar was also known to have one of the nicest personalities. She was said to be funny, witty, and fun-loving yet at the same time serious and thoughtful. Samar was always helping others and stood by her friends when they were in need. The person who receives this award should be honored to be given an award that was named after such an outstanding and amazing person both academically and socially. Without further ado, the Samar Al-Ansari Award goes to Tarek Nour (12 IB).

“A New Dress”by Ruth Dallas

“A New Dress” by Ruth Dallas talks about a little girl who is sacrificing a new dress in order to remain friends with a girl who is less fortunate than she. After this poem was translated from English to Arabic and then back to English again, it lost its charm and deep meaning. The poem went from being deep and metaphorical, to a very literal piece.

Some of the words remained the same, but because of the numerous translations, the words were disarranged. For example, in the original, this was written “I don’t want a new dress, I said”. While in the translated version, this was written, “I said, ‘I don’t want a new dress”. Also the metaphors of this poem were lost among the translators. The author’s word choice in the original poem was perfectly chosen to display metaphorical and symbolic meanings, but when it was translated, it was translated into a literal sense. This is an example of a metaphor in the original, “Snip-snip. Snip-snip. The cold scissors ate quickly as my white rabbit round my arm”. But in the translated version, this is how the metaphor was ruined, “Snip, snip, snip, snip the cold scissors; ate quickly while my white rabbit was around my arms”.
The words used in the translation were very similar or the same as the ones used in the original. But the way in which they were arranged, and the way the words were directed affected the meaning of the poem. For instance, in the original, the girl was talking to herself, while in the translated version the dialogue was directed towards the reader. In conclusion, I would like to say that even though the translator translated the poem word for word, the arrangement of the words affected the meaning of the poem significantly.

On Children by Khalil Gibran

Your Children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's
longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you,yet they
belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your
thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts,
You may house their bodies but not
their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house
of tomorrow, which you can not visit,
not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek
not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries
with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of
the infinite, and He bends you with
His might that His arrows may go
swift and far.

GRIEVING SILENTLY

Why must I grieve silently,
When my heart is so loudly screaming?
The emptiness I feel is consuming me,
Oh God, how I wish I were dreaming.
The silence around me is deafening,
For nobody knows what to say,
To comfort this agony I'm feeling,
Since my son went away.
And each day the sun continues to rise,
And the earth is still turning,
Though my world has come to a screeching halt,
No one can ease my yearning.
For a part of me has vanished,
And a part of my heart has died,
And no one can hear my heartache,
Or feel the turmoil I carry inside.
And I'll go on grieving silently,
And exist on a different plane,
And I'll keep my love for him deep in my heart,
Until we see each other again.

No One But You

No One But You- Queens

A hand above the water
An angel reaching for the sky
Is it raining in heaven -
Do you want us to cry?

And everywhere the broken-hearted
On every lonely avenue
No-one could reach them
No-one but you

One by one
Only the good die young
They're only flying too close to the sun
And life goes on -
Without you...

Another tricky situation
A get to drowin' in the blues
And i find myself thinkin'
Well - what would you do?

Yes! - it was such an operation
Forever paying every due
Hell, you made a sensation
You found a way through - and

One by one
Only the good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
We'll remember -
Forever...

And now the party must be over
I guess we'll never understand
The sense of your leaving
Was it the way it was planned?

And so we grace another table
And raise our glasses one more time
There's a face at the window
And i ain't never, never sayin' goodbye...

One by one
Only the good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
Cryin' for nothing
Cryin' for no-one
No-one but you

Theory of Knowledge Assignment (1)

Question: If a community decides that a sentence like “2 + 2 = 5” is true or false , then does that fact make the sentence really true or false?

Unless the meaning of 5 or 6 is changed to 4, then that statement is not true. There is no evidence backing it up. People just believe it because an authority figure said it, ignorance is bliss. People could believe that it’s true, but that wouldn’t make it true. False statements may be acknowledged as true, but never the less, they are still false.

For example, in communist Russia during the pre-world war II period under the communist leader, Joseph Stalin, the Russians were brain washed. They behaved that all art that didn’t glorify Stalin or his communist regime was evil, the same went for literature, and Stalin preached that he was God. The broad statement that art and literature not glorifying communism spread evil, is completely false. This could be proven by testing the behavior of people who viewed lovely paintings, and it would be clear that it is false. Also logically, beautiful paintings that don’t deal with communism don’t spread evil. People actually enjoy art, and viewing a beautiful painting of a red rose will not inspire the viewer to do “evil” things. Finally, if paintings and literature inspired evil behavior, then why is there a large literate and artistic society worldwide who aren’t evil? As for Stalin being God, the only God-like thing about him is his power. He is nothing but a mortal, and that can be proven by DNA testing. Also, if he was God, then how come he doesn’t have any supernatural powers? He can’t be a God; he went through all the stages of human development. Therefore; these statements are generally false but with the use of media and propaganda, people believed them and maybe acknowledged them as true, but they aren’t .Truths have to be proven and have some logic.

People tend to believe false statements as true ones because they have been said by people of high positions. Sometimes people believe something just because an authority figure said it. They might acknowledge it as true, but it most definitely isn’t.

Freud wrote to his friend Binswanger:

"We find a place for what we lose. Although we know that after such a loss the acute stage of mourning will subside, we also know that we shall remain inconsolable and will never find a substitute. No matter what may fill the gap, even if it be filled completely, it nevertheless remains something else."

Why are you not moving on?

I am asked “why are you not moving on?
It is over a year since your daughter had gone?”

These words hurt me and tear me apart
There is no end to the grief in my heart!

"Your tomorrow will soon be filled with joy
When you have a grandchild, a girl or a boy"

It is very hard to feel that you are suddenly alone
As others do not wish to continue hearing you groan

Try to understand me friends and loved ones
As you all have daughters and sons

And try to accept the person I became
Since the one you love will never be the same

I do not see at times when I open my eyes
This is what happens when a daughter dies

I will never be able to spend a single night or day
Without talking about my daughter, or for her pray

I know that for you, she and I are so dear
Be assured that to me this is crystal clear

I am sure that my well being is your concern
But please realize that every minute for her I yearn

Comparative Paragraphs

“The Chameleon” by Anton Chekov and “The Fox and the Woodcutter” by Aesop are very similar pieces of work according to theme and tone. The theme of “The Chameleon” is that social status affects every aspect of life. For instance people will let people with high positions off the hook. Also, that the judicial system does not apply to everyone, such as many other systems. In “The Fox and the Woodcutter”, the main theme is not to trust what you hear; you have to always see it. Also, another theme is that everyone always looks out for himself and only cares about himself. The idea of distrust is evident in both themes. For instance, in “The Chameleon”, the victim learned that he couldn’t trust the officers and the law because they look out for themselves, and look for ways in which they are benefited. This is also evident in “The Fox and the Woodcutter”, because the fox learned that he couldn’t trust the woodcutter. The fox couldn’t trust the woodcutter, because he is a human, and humans are selfish beings who always look out for themselves. The tones of both stories include mocking, criticism, and the authors’ personal views on life matters.

The authors’ use of humor in their work is a way in which they depict and mock the serious problems evident in society today. The use of sarcasm, irony, and criticism are very effective ways in which to interest the reader and show him the importance of the problems we face as a human race. The authors were using very humorous and simple, carefree tones, because they want to portray to the readers, the silliness of these matters, and show them, how corrupted our world has become. Man can no longer trust his brother, because in this deceitful world we live in, it’s every man for himself. In “The Chameleon” the author named the officer ‘Moronoff” to show his readers, that people who treat other people differently according to social status, are indeed morons. In “The Fox and the Woodcutter”, the author used irony as he described the fox as ‘wily’, but it was the woodcutter who was ‘cunning’. This shows us that even the smartest people can be fooled when they trust someone. Even though, both these pieces of work are very similar, they have some differences.

In “The Chameleon” the author depicts the troubles between man and society. He is trying to show us that it isn’t man’s fault, that we play favorites, it is society that makes us think the way we do, no matter how wrong it is. It is society that favors the powerful, not man. But in “The Fox and the Woodcutter” the author depicts the troubles we face between each other, and is focusing on the trust issues we have among each other. He uses an animal, in this case a fox, to symbolize a naïve man who actually believes he can trust a complete stranger. Using an animal is a very effective technique in which to teach the reader a valuable lesson. This is true, because the animal resembles a visitor to our world who is disgusted by the way we treat and view each other. It is like “The Fox and the Woodcutter” is a continuation of “The Chameleon”. “The Chameleon” gives you an introduction to the pathetic world we live in, and “The Fox and the Woodcutter” shows us the disgust of an outsider of our world.

WHEN A LOVED ONE'S GONE

Those we love remain with
us, for love itself lives on.
And cherished memories
never fade because a
loved one’s gone.

Those we love can never
be more than a thought apart.
For as long as there
is memory they’ll
live on in the
heart

Dedicated to you Randah‏

To Oum Sammar, for Oum Sammar.

(I only wish I knew how to translate this passage in Arabic. Only in the Arabic language can one find the precise word to express what Alfred de Musset wrote so eloquently and poetically in the passage below. I tried to translate it roughly in English, but much of the beauty of the original words are being lost).
Yasmine Fahim

Que les noirs seraphins t’ont faite au fond du coeur;

Translation:

Whatever the worry your youth has endured,
Let it grow, this holy wound
That the black seraphins have left in the depth of your heart;
Nothing makes us so grand as an immense pain,
But to be touched by it, don't think, o poet,
That your voice here on earth should remain quiet,
The most desperate are the most beautiful chants,
And I know a few that are pure sobs.

Journal

Why? Why are people so mean? This poor guy Garret Morgan worked day and night to make sure that our safety came first. The traffic light, the gas mask, are all examples of his thoughtfulness.

People wouldn't buy anything from him. Maybe he was almost bankrupt. God gifted him with an imaginative and creative brain. All negros shouldn't be treated this way too. Some of the best singers are negros because God gave them the gift. Look at me I'm not Snow White, people don't treat me different now because they learnt their lesson.

It's not reasonable to do that to a kind man because he's black. Have you heard of Michael Jackson's song "It doesn't matter if you're black or white."
Something that bugs me is Garret A. Morgan died knowing that people treated him very bad because of his color and he wasn't a free man. I mean he worked for the other people and they hated him! He saved people's lives. This is for you Mr. Morgan.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me,

And I'm not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

All filled with tears for me:

I wish you wouldn't cry

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn't get to say

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time that you think of me,

I know you'll miss me too:

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand.

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above,

And that I'd have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,

I felt so much at home.

When God looked down and smiled at me,

From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity.

And all I've promised you.

Today your life on earth is past,

But here life starts anew."

"I promise no tomorrow,

But today will always last,

And since each day's the same way

There's no longing for the past."

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don't think we're far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I'm right here, in your heart.

Epic Poem

The day that my belovèd entered my life wasn’t diverse to the days passed.
He was presented to me as Roger, my brother Chadwick’s squire.
Roger had delicate, white skin resembling that of a pearl.
He had beautiful green eyes that made your own eyes water from their splendor.
His light volumous hair fell upon his shoulders,
And relentlessly swayed from the gentle breeze.
I viewed Roger as nothing more than a pretty face at first.
I am not a believer in love at first sight,
For my heart didn’t quiver, or jump upon our first meeting.
I didn’t feel intoxicated by his charm, or good looks at first.
My love to him took ten years to develop.
It was a long process, but it was worth my time.

I was ten years older now, but not wiser.
My relationship with Roger did not alter,
I still merely saw him as my brother’s squire,
But in a blink of an eye that all changed.
I was followed home one day by Charles, the drunk.
My heart augmented with fear with every step I took.
My poor, naïve heart froze with terror when I felt his vile hand on my neck.
My feet distorted into planted tree stumps,
And I remained motionless for several seconds.
His abominable hands were moving all over my body, and I just stood there.
Like a true knight, Roger appeared and came to my rescue.
With one strike from Roger’s noble hand Charles plummeted to the ground.
He tenderly picked me up and started wiping the tears from my fear stricken face.
That was when my eyes met his for the first time,
His eyes shined like diamonds in a field of snow.
As I stared into those exquisite eyes of his,
I realized that I was meant to be with him and only him.

Time surpassed, and my love to Roger amplified.
My smile never parted my face.
At every sight of him, I began to hear sonnets in my head
Which my heart danced to.
Roger, of course was oblivious to my love.
The thought of telling him made me perturbed.
If I was rejected, my heart would break,
And I am not certified at mending broken hearts.
I tried to glimpse him in any way possible,
But he never looked my way.
My love to him was pure and honest.
I didn’t love him for his looks,
Or for the fact that he was becoming a knight.
I loved him for the person he was,
I loved him for being so valiant,
And I loved him for putting a smile on my face every day.
One glimpse of him would make up for all the hardships I’ve faced before.
He was my sole reason for living.
But I couldn’t tell him this….
His training here in Yorkshire was almost done,
And he was scheduled to leave to London in a matter of days.
The thought of him leaving my world
Felt like a sword being plunged into my heart.
I wasn’t ready for him to leave, I wasn’t going to let that happen.
So, I went to Xavnier, the local magician
and pleaded with her to concoct a potion compelling Roger to stay.

The concoction was slipped into Roger’s drink,
And to my ecstasy and delight, Roger decided to stay.
I still loved Roger from afar
The thought of revealing my love to him still terrified me.
In my opinion loving someone from afar,
Is better than not loving at all.
I didn’t want to lose the greatest thing that ever happened to me.
In a matter of days, Roger entered a tournament in a nearby manor.
I was there cheering him on, when all of a sudden a sword penetrated through him.
In a flash he was laying there dead on the ground,
His beautiful green eyes now vacant like my heart.

My one and true love died
Without ever knowing the depth of my feelings towards him.
I miss him….
Like the desert misses the rain.
I am left here in this cruel world, soulless,
With a broken heart that will never love again.
My tears flow like water from an ocean.
Days pass but the pain I feel is never diminished
I couldn’t escape fate…
In both ways, Roger was going to leave me,
Either by going to London, or by death.
And my heart will never be the same again…

"My Mom is a Survivor"

My Mom is a survivor,

or so I've heard it said.

But I can hear her crying at night

when all others are in bed.

I watch her lay awake at night

and go to hold her hand.

She doesn't know I'm with her

to help her understand.

But like the sands on the beach

that never wash away...

I watch over my surviving mom,

who thinks of me each day.

She wears a smile for others...

a smile of disguise!

But through Heaven's door I see

tears flowing from her eyes.

My mom tries to cope with death

to keep my memory alive.

But anyone who knows her knows

it is her way to survive.

As I watch over my surviving mom

through Heaven's open door...

I try to tell her that angels

protect me forevermore.

I know that doesn't help her...

or ease the burden she bears.

So if you get a chance, go visit her...

and show her that you care.

For no matter what she says...

no matter what she feels.

My surviving mom has a broken heart

that time won't ever heal.

Why School is Important and not Important

School is important because we want to go to school so we can have an education to have a good career. And it would be silly to be an adult without education.
School is not important because sometimes they ask us stupid questions and they teach us not useful stuff.

Griffin Dead, Who Is Behind This Disgusting Act of Crime?

Something very sad and tragic happened yesterday, someone has been found dead. Brian Griffin, a local high school teacher, has been found dead in the Sandia Mountains. He has been missing for a couple of days now, but Lana, a college student who used to go up there with her former boyfriend, recovered Brian Griffin’s pills as they were hiking in the Sandia Mountains. They took them to the police and said they saw a freshly covered patch of dirt, the police went there and that is when they recovered Brian Griffin’s body. He was found with a blue windbreaker from Sears wrapped around his head, and his university ring was missing as well as his wallet. Who would’ve done this to innocent Brian Griffin?

Ms. Griffin is pregnant with their first child, how is she supposed to raise her child all by herself? She has been worried sick, and she has hired Detective Baca to search for her husband.

Brian Griffin had a heart problem, it wasn’t that serious but he needed to take pills for it everyday. It has been proved that he died from his heart problem, and as we can see he couldn’t take his pills.

The state police are doing all they can to find the murderers, and if you know anything about this case please call the police.
After you read this article I’m sure you will think, are any of us safe, or are we also going to have the same tragic fate as Brian Griffin. Let us hope to god that the people behind all this get locked up behind bars. All my condolences go to Ms. Griffin, who has been very brave and through a lot these past few days.

Emptiness

All I feel is emptiness
in body,mind and soul.
Nothing possibly could change,
repair me,make me whole.

They say this pain will lessen,
that in time I will find peace,
that these mighty waves of anguish
will someday lighten,cease.

But now their words don't soothe me.
My mind is screaming so.
I can't see reason,meaning.
My bleeding heart cries,"No!"

My life just seems a burden
filled with tragedy and loss
and I cannot make the effort
or pay the price it costs.

They say this pain will lessen.
They talk to me of peace.
But this darkness is so heavy,
my only hope-release.

Will this emptiness devour me?
Existence feels so bleak.
To give my life new meaning,
I know not what to seek.

My Sickness

One day I came home from school, I was dizzy, I had a headache, and then I went to sleep. I woke up and then started throwing up. I thought that I had to go to the hospital and they had to stick a needle in my arm. I was scared to eat because I thought if I ate, I would throw up again. So I lay there under the covers in hunger.

The next day I went to the hospital for a check up and all the doctors started staring at me as if I was some sort of weird. After that, I got better but I always was scared that I would throw up. Then I learnt it's okay for someone to be sick once in a while.

Et j'ai suivi le vol d'un ange
l m'a emmené jusqu'à toi

On frôlait l'océan
Est-ce que tu te rappelles ?
On partait droit devant
On rêvait

Crossroads

In this vaudeville, the author clearly exhibits his views on life. His message to the readers is, you see the clearest when your eyes are shut. He emphasizes the importance of trusting your instinct and going by what you feel, and not by what you see. Your eyes can not see inner beauty, but your heart can. The man in “crossroads” had his eyes wide open, but he couldn’t see his true love that was standing right in front of him. In response to the man’s disability, the woman told him to close his eyes, because she knew that his eyes were blinding him from the truth. The author is trying to show that it isn’t correct to only believe what you see. People hold on to false ideals and by doing this they are depriving themselves of happiness. For example, the man was looking for the perfect woman, the beautiful woman in the picture. As for the woman, she too was looking for the perfect man, that’s why she went from man to man. They both had such high standards, and didn’t want to settle for anything less than perfect, even if it meant depriving themselves of happiness. As for the flagman, he is a foil to them to emphasize their idealism.

Potatoes

Today's famous potato was not very liked in Europe. When a Spanish explorer brought the first potato plant to Europe, many Europeans would not eat it. They thought it was poisonous. The British grew potatoes for feeding animals, while other Europeans grew them for decoration. Then it turned out to be that only the green parts were poisonous.
The European rulers realized that potatoes were a good source of food. Then they ordered people in their countries to grow them. Then the ruler of France liked potatoes so much. He put a potato flower on his clothes. Ireland then made potatoes, one of their main foods.

كفى

Tuesday 15th of June

Tuesday 15th of June,
I'm so happy I could hawl at the moon!
Tomorrow school's out!
Tomorrow I'll be free,
From the teachers screaming at me!
No more cold food!
After tomorrow, I'll eat by the pool!
Tuesday 15th of June!
I'm so happy I could howl at the moon!
Awoooh!

Bessma Shammas sent

I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting Light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in God's own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting'
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Extracts from the Prophet

And you would accept the seasons of your heart,

even as you have always accepted the seasons

that pass over your fields.

And you would watch with serenity

through the winters of your grief.

Missing by Everything But The Girl

I step off the train
I'm walking down your street again and past your door
But you don't live there any more
It's years since you've been there
But now you've disappeared somewhere like outer space
You've found some better place
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
Could you be dead?
You always were two steps ahead of everyone
We'd walk behind while you would run
I look up at your house
And I can almost hear you shout down to me
Where I always used to be
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
Back on the train
I ask why did I come again?
Can I confess I've been hanging around your old address?
The years have proved to offer nothing since you moved
You're long goneBut I can't move on
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss youI step off the train
I'm walking down your street again and past your door
But you don't live there any more
It's years since you've been there
But now you've disappeared somewhere like outer space
You've found some better place
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you - like the deserts miss the rain
The deserts miss the rain - like the deserts miss the rain
The deserts miss the rainlike the deserts miss the rain

Yasmine Fahim Sent

for us, in memory of those who have left us‏

Confidentiel by Jean Jacqhes Goldman

Faut surtout jamais regretter

I simply wished to tell you
That your face and your smile
Will always remain with me along my way
To tell you that it was for real
All that we said, all that we did,
That it was not a lie, that it was good.
There should be no regrets
Even if it hurts, it was gained
All these moments, these same mornings,
I will not say not to cry,
There's no sense in depriving oneself,
But all that we did not fail, was worth it,
We may meet again,
We may, or we may not,
But know that I am here.
It will remain like a beam
To keep me warm in my winters,
A little flame of you that will never die.

Eighteen Months

Eighteen months! How did I endure?
Through faith and love that is for sure!

“Time heals” is the worst of all lies
As every part of me for her cries

Eighteen months without seeing her face
And without a hug or a warm embrace

The longing grows day after day
And the heartache deepens along the way

Eighteen months without her beautiful smile
And without a glimpse of her profile

She is my child, the apple of my eye
And thus for her everyday I yearn and cry

Eighteen months I have been carrying this pain
Sometimes I wonder how I managed to stay sane

Although I am surrounded with lots of love
The fact remains that I wish her back from above

Eighteen months living with the empty space
A vacuum that no one can fill or replace

So help me Lord to keep going along
It is only YOU who can make me strong!

Empty Places

I drove the old way yesterday.
It 'd been a while,you see.
And there,without warning,
the pain washed over me.

I drove the old way yesterday
and sadness came on strong,
taken back by so much feeling,
since you've been gone so long

Places seem to lie in wait
to summon up the tears,
to say remember yesterday,
those days when you were here.

Places where you laughed and played
are places where I cry.
These places hold the memories
that will live as long as I.

Reflection on "Music Censorship"

Debating controversial issues is something I am not adverse to, for it is one of my favorite pastimes. The feeling of absolute excitement I get when trying to prove my point is indescribable. There is this adrenaline rush that goes through my body that makes me feel so alive. Even when I was this somewhat less stimulating project, I was rather excited. This year I haven’t been doing my work to the best of my ability, but with this project, it was different. I felt like I had to achieve something; I had to prove something. I feel that I achieved my goal of writing two balanced, well structured essays on the controversy over music censorship. This project was quite time consuming, and very tiring, but it was worth it. After all the research I’ve done concerning my project, I feel qualified enough to engage in a debate relating to it. I am a rather opinionated person, but this project has taught me that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that in order to let people agree with you, you must back up your arguments with substantial proof. Before conducting this project, I really didn’t have any say concerning this topic, I was somewhere in the middle. But after my research, I personally believe that music should not be censored in the USA, because in this day and age I believe that people should have the complete right to say whatever they want, within certain limits of course. But these limits do not go under music censorship. Music is a beautiful art, and art should not be censored. Even though I feel this particular way about my topic, I tried to the best of my ability to write with a non-biased attitude, and hopefully that it is evident in my writing.
