Samar Al Ansari's 2011 Award for Analytical and Critical Thinking in Economics,IKNS

In a story Samar Al Ansari wrote, she said: “Darius died a happy man because he died knowing that he was loved.” (March 19th 2003). Samar’s words echo back to her as she has left us knowingly.

Samar was indeed a loved person; she was kind-hearted, helpful and very gracious. Many of you here might not know Samar Alansari; Samar was part of the IKNS community from KG1 until her graduation in 2006. She was a very well rounded figure who excelled in her academics and managed to be a vital member in sports teams.

In her memory, and tribute to her outstanding efforts, her parents have established annual prizes to graduating students who excelled in the two subjects Samar showed most passion for, Economics and Physical Education. In Economics, Samar was outstanding; she viewed economical theories in different perspectives. She questioned everything and induced critical and analytical thinking into her work and that predominantly made her a distinguished student.

As a tribute to Samar, who was a member of the Honor Society, and to honor her memory, the Economics prize is awarded each year to a student who excels in the following criteria:

Criterion 1: Application and analysis of Economic concepts and theories
Criterion 2: Evaluation and assessment of the student’s ability to evaluate economic concepts and theories in the context of real-world examples

In 2007, the first to receive Samar Al Ansari Economics award was Subah BuAli, In 2008, it was presented to Tariq Noor, in 2009 to Nouf Mattar and in 2010 to Abdulla Mahmood. This year the Samar Al Ansari Economics Award is presented to a student who has clear writing and critical thinking skills as well as analytical abilities, which has made her the most eligible candidate among 21 students taking economics in 2010-2011.

I have the pleasure to invite Dr. Randah Hamadeh, Samar’s mother, to present the Samar Al Ansari’s Award in Economics to Muzoon Mattar.
